چکیده

The complexity of modern mobile phones makes it difficult for developers to understand the power consumption of their applications. Ourmeasurement framework produces finegrained, annotated traces of a phone’s power consumption which we are using to develop an understanding of how particular aspects of an application drive energy use. We ran a large number of automated tests using Google Android G1, Magic, Hero and Nexus handsets and present results for the average energy consumption of connection and data transmission over 802.11 wireless networks. Our results show that the optimal choice of data transmission strategy is different between handsets, operating systems, and device context. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Performance comparison of battery power consumption in wireless multiple access protocols

Energy eeciency is an important issue in mobile wireless networks since the battery life of mobile terminals is limited. Conservation of battery power has been addressed using many techniquessuch as variable speed CPUs, ash memory, disk spindowns, and so on. We believe that energy conservation should be an important factor in the design of networking protocols for mobile wireless networks. In p...

A Survey on IEEE Standards for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Mobile Ad Hoc Networks ( MANETs ) are complex distributed systems that comprise wireless mobile nodes that can freely and dynamically self – organize into arbitrary and temporary “ ad hoc “ network topologies, allowing people and devices to internetwork in areas with no pre – existing communication infrastructure. Adhoc networking concept is not a new one, having been around in various forms fo...

Saving Energy in Wi-Fi Hotspots through 802.11 PSM: an Analytical Model

Wi-Fi hotspots are becoming very popular. Due to limited costs, they are an effective solution to provide wireless Internet access to nomadic users. A key point to exploit the potentialities of Wi-Fi hotspots is managing the scarce energetic resources of mobile devices. To this end, the IEEE 802.11 standard defines a Power-Saving Mode aimed at reducing the energy consumption due to networking a...
